Rosemount Irish Peewee C Gold Prairie Madness Champions!
The Irish escaped a tough first round matchup against Bloomington Jefferson in a shootout. This game was tight all the way through. The score was tied 1-1 after one, and 2-2 after two periods. Ben Pilger drew first blood in the opening period and Ty Salak scored with assists to Luke Molde and Ethan Smith to even things up in the second. The Jaguars scored 2:10 into the third to retake the lead at 3-2. The Irish finally scored the tying goal with 16 seconds remaining in the third to force the shoot-out on a blast from the point by Weston Ebner. Goalie Jonah Wangsness came up huge in the shootout, shutting the door on 4 of the 5 Jefferson shooters.
The Irish then met up with the Sioux Falls Flyers in the semi-final game. Again they would need some last minute heroics to advance to the final round. With no scoring through the first two periods of play, the Flyers jumped up 2 goals midway through the third. That's when the Irish finally went to work. Ty Salak netted their first goal on a great set-up from Ethan Smith just 11 seconds after the Flyers posted their second goal. With just under 3 minutes to play, the Irish struck again. Matthias Klinkner buried a sweet pass from Matt Boerboom from behind the net to even things up. Jacob Unangst put the game away with an unassisted goal with just under a minute to go. On to the finals...
Jonah Wangsness pitched a shut-out in the championship game against the Minneapolis Storm. The Irish jumped to a quick lead early in the first on a goal by Luke Molde (assist to George Dawson). Luke then set up Brockton Winkler for his first goal of the night a minute later. In the second period, Ty Salak again was the recipient of a nice pass from Ethan Smith on a 2 on 1 break, staking the Irish to a 3 goal lead. To finish up the scoring, Brockton scored an unassisted shorthanded goal to close out the tournament.
